Modeling the Temperature Behavior of an RLC Circuit

    Get PDF
A problem that occurs in the use of electrical appliances is overheating. Electrical device components require reasonable working temperatures to prevent damage and increase efficiency. To gain an understanding of overheating we worked with an RLC circuit (a circuit consisting of a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor) to represent a simplified model of an electrical component. The behavior of this circuit is similar to that of many electrical appliance components because as current flows through the resistor there is a rise in temperature due to the resistance to the electric current. Therefore, by using the RLC circuit, we can possibly get a better understanding of an electrical component’s temperature behavior. We first investigated the circuit’s differential equation to find the solution for the current. The derived current can be used in the power loss of the resistor, which is equal to the heat dissipated from the circuit resistance. To model the cooling of the system we added radiation, conduction, and convection terms to the differential equation. With each added cooling term the temperature in our system was seen to decrease significantly

Distal-extremity cryotherapy in preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy from paclitaxel administration in people affected by breast cancer: a systematic review.

To explore the experiences of utilising distal-extremity cryotherapy in reducing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy during Paclitaxel treatment on physical functioning, clinical and patient-reported outcomes, compared to standard care in people affected by breast cancer. Four databases and one register were searched on 11 April 2023 to identify all relevant studies meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. These were CINAHL (via EBSCOhost), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline (via EBSCOhost), Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection, with no limiters placed on any of the searches. Additionally, relevant systematic reviews were scrutinised for potentially relevant studies for screening. Distal-extremity cryotherapy is a safe intervention with minimal risk for serious adverse events. However, insufficient data supports the mainstay clinical use of cryotherapy in reducing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy from Paclitaxel use within the breast cancer population. Heterogeneity in study design, cryotherapy mode, and measurement tools underscore the need for additional research. Despite limited data on the impact of distal-extremity cryotherapy in preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, there are valuable implications for nursing practice arising from this review. Nurses play a vital role in the clinical and experiential journey of people with breast cancer, it is important that they understand the available evidence and act as patient advocates. Assisting patients in understanding current research and encouraging participation in future studies, thereby enhancing our knowledge, and strengthening the available evidence base

A REVERSIBLE ERLANG LOSS SYSTEM WITH MULTITYPE CUSTOMERS AND MULTITYPE SERVERS

We consider a memoryless Erlang loss system with servers S = {1, …, J}, and with customer types C = {1, …, I}. Servers are multitype, so that server j can serve a subset of customer types C(j). We show that the probabilities of assigning arriving customers to idle servers can be chosen in such a way that the Markov process describing the system is reversible, with a simple product form stationary distribution. Furthermore, the system is insensitive; these properties are preserved for general service time distributions

Web Site Media Relations: A New Direction for Agricultural Public Relations Professionals

    Get PDF
Agricultural public relations practitioners and communicators face a challenge in following the current trend in Web-based media information dissemination. Most agricultural organizations serve a traditional clientele that prefer conventional media as a source of news and information. This may result in many agricultural communicators overlooking the information needs of the media, which in turn could be a reason for the media to neglect agricultural news. A content analysis was conducted of Web sites created and maintained by all major Florida agricultural commodity organizations to determine the percentage of Florida Agricultural Web sites that provide media information, the location of media information within the Web sites, and the type of media information provided. Results indicated that the primary objective of these agricultural commodity Web sites appears to be to provide an internal communication mechanism for members. It was evident that the agricultural sites are not created with the needs of journalists or members of the media as a priority. Certainly, it is positive that there are press releases, feature stories, and logo graphics available on numerous Web sites; however, many releases were outdated and many elements of a good pressroom were absent

An Investigation Of Organizational Information Security Risk Analysis

    Get PDF
Despite a growing number and variety of information security threats, many organizations continue to neglect implementing information security policies and procedures.  The likelihood that an organization’s information systems can fall victim to these threats is known as information systems risk (Straub & Welke, 1998).  To combat these threats, an organization must undergo a rigorous process of self-analysis. To better understand the current state of this information security risk analysis (ISRA) process, this study deployed a questionnaire using both open-ended and closed ended questions administered to a group of information security professionals (N=32).  The qualitative and quantitative results of this study show that organizations are beginning to conduct regularly scheduled ISRA processes.  However, the results also show that organizations still have room for improvement to create idyllic ISRA processes.&nbsp
